AIS (Active Isolated Stretching)

What is AIS?  Active Isolated Stretching: Active means that the person being stretched actively participates, rather than sitting passively and watching.  This engages our central nervous system in several ways.  The word isolated refers to how specific this series of stretches is.  We offer SIX different stretches for the Hamstring muscles on the back of the thigh.  Many athletes only know one or two Hamstring stretches and those are of questionable value as they often strain the spine, etc.   We are truly isolating to reach all muscle fibers, even commonly neglected ones. Stretching: While there are many effective techniques to elongate muscle and fascia tissue, AIS makes a significant contribution.  Because it is so gentle, we do not create resistance in the body.  Because it is so simple, we have a take-home tool for life.

Please wear comfortable clothing to our sessions.  I will provide 8 foot ropes as necessary for you to borrow or buy, or you can bring a stretching aid from home.  You may elect to try a single session or the entire set.  Drop in or call me with questions.  (503) 317-4873.

Wishing everyone a happy, active Autumn season,

Yours warmly,

Claire Darling, LMT

Summer Stretching Series

The long anticipated Summer Stretching Series is coming starting the third Saturday in July, July 18th.  We will be doing 1 or 2 primary joints of the body each week.  Class should run 45-60 minutes.  $10 per session.  ($5 dojo members).

Time:  12:15- 1-ish

I will be leading us through Aaron Mattes' Method: Active Isolated Stretching.  These moves are simple, but challenging; gentle, but effective.  If you exercise at all, chances are you have some muscle fibers that need to be stretched appropriately to get the most out of your performance.  If you have not yet found ways to move that bring you joy, come anyhow.  Respectfully bringing your muscles into their optimal length and tone helps general life activities and prevents injuries for when you figure out your passion to keep moving.

Our bodies' inherent design requires motion for every system to function well: immune, circulatory, synovial, digestive, etc.   We are built to move!
Accurate, safe stretching techniques make all movements easier and safer.  If you're an athlete, this technique will make you stronger and more powerful.  Come join us.  Call me with questions any time.  Check out Aaron's website: www.stretchingusa.com.
